Synopsis
Into
the
Abyss” is a sensitive film that seeks to raise awareness
on the growing incidence of Depression in India. A complex
ailment, and probably the commonest worldwide, the film
turns the spotlight on urban Indian youth and seeks
compassion and understanding to deal with this
disorder that can strike anyone at anytime.
As the film notes: one in every three people
will suffer some form of depression at some
phase in life.
The film follows the agony of the
protagonist Nitin, male, 24 years old, who
is in the throes of a depressive attack. The
director captures his anxiety, irritability,
frustration and the ebbing of both mental
and physical energy. Splicing his developing
malady with highly practical interviews with
medical practitioners, the film creates a
sympathetic understanding of a complex
issue. It also urges immediate medical
treatment for the ailment and exhorts close
friends and relatives to be vigilant to the
needs of those who may be afflicted with
depression. |
